Picking the Right Controller
The controller you should use depends on what cars you drive and
how fast the track is.
-
On a twisty course the 45 ohm controller is a
good all-purpose controller. It works well with
most cars on most courses. It's the best choice
if you only carry only one controller.
-
For Thunderjets and Model Motoring a 60 ohm
resistor gives you more control and it's what I
use at home. It takes about 5 minutes to swap
resistors in a controller.
-
On a fast course with magnet cars (Tyco,
Tomy,
Life-Like,
Mattel) you'll
find a 25 or 45 ohm controller gives you more
precision at slow speeds. On a banked oval or
with extremely hot cars 15 ohms is the way to
go.
Some kids seem to use two speeds, ON and OFF. You can make
things a bit easier by taping an eraser or some small object
between the trigger and the handle of the controller. This
should keep the trigger from going all the way to full power.
When you have multiple controllers, using children's stickers is
a good way to mark them. It also makes my controller stand out
from everyone else's.
